Yuba County — Motorists can expect overnight traffic delays on State Highway 20 in the Smartsville area over the next two weeks because of paving work.

A contractor will conduct reversing one-way traffic control from approximately 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday until July 27. In addition, area residents can expect to hear construction noise, including back-up alarms from trucks, during the nighttime hours. Crews will be doing paving work on the current highway and a new section of roadway during this time.

Caltrans also is alerting motorists and residents that crews will be working from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 29 and 30 to pour concrete on a new bridge deck. Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control during that time period.

The work is part of a $28.5 million safety project to straighten and flatten curves, widen shoulders, construct a new bridge, repave the roadway and improve drainage in the Smartsville area.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
