FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

El Dorado County  – Caltrans is advising motorists of a scheduled three-night full closure on State Route 49 (SR-49) between Cool and the American River confluence next week. A $388,000 emergency Director’s Order has been approved for the work.

The closure is scheduled for overnights starting Tuesday, October 24 at 8 p.m. until Friday, October 27 at 5 a.m. between the SR-49/SR-193 intersection in Cool to the North Fork American River bridge. The highway will be open between 5 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day.

Portable message signs have been placed on southbound SR-49 in Auburn and at the North Fork American River bridge as well as northbound SR-49 in Cool at the intersection of St. Florian Court advising motorists of the scheduled closure.

This section of SR-49 was damaged by last winter’s substantial rain events and is a heavily traveled route linking Auburn, Cool and Placerville.

Scheduling the closure for the overnight hours minimizes traffic impacts for residents and motorists and provides workers a safe environment as the highway is very narrow and winding in this area. A full closure will also maximize the amount of repairs that can be completed.

All schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment or material availability or other unexpected events.

Caltrans issues construction and road condition updates on @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.  For real-time traffic information, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
