Devil's Corral Safety Project on State Route 36

Devils Corral Safety Project

The Project:

The Devil’s Corral Safety project is in Lassen County about 9 miles west of Susanville from 1.2 miles west to 1.2 miles east of Willard Creek Road and State Route (SR) 36.

Project Benefits:

The project was initiated by a run-off-the-road monitoring program. The goal is to reduce the severity and frequency of collisions by increasing shoulder width, adding rumble strips, and adding guardrail. The project will also extend and replace culverts to increase drainage effectiveness and remove vegetation to increase sun exposure.

Project Includes:

This project includes widening the road prism to accommodate 8-ft shoulders and shift the centerline approximately 12-ft to the north. This project also includes replacing and extending culverts, adding guardrail, removing vegetation, relocating overhead utilities, and placing rumble strips along the edge of the travel way and the centerline.

Current Project Schedule:

It is estimated this project will take 80-120 workings days, with all days requiring traffic control. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2024/early 2025.

Project Funding Estimates:

Project Cost: $6.8M
