Chester Causeway Rehabilitation Project on State Route 36 in Plumas and Lassen Counties
The Project:
The Chester Causeway Rehabilitation project in Plumas/Lassen Counties is along State Route (SR) 36 at multiple locations from Melissa Avenue in Chester to just east of Red River Canal in Westwood.
Project Benefits:
The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of distressed lane miles by restoring the roadway to a state where minimal maintenance is required, the ride quality is improved, and the service life of the existing highway will be extended. In addition, conduits will be installed to provide future broadband expansion.
Project Includes:
This project includes reconstructing the full depth of the existing roadway along some portions while widening the shoulders to eight feet. In other locations the project will mill and overlay the roadway and widen shoulders to four feet. Other parts of the project will include guardrail replacement, culvert work, rumble strips and signage.
Current Project Schedule:
It is estimated this project will take 120 workings days, with all working days requiring traffic control/flaggers and minimal delays. Construction is scheduled to start in spring/summer of 2025, as weather permits. Preliminary tree work along SR 36 begins in mid-January 2025, and ends in mid-February 2025.
Project Funding Estimates:
Project Cost: $49.8M
