2024 District 2 Workers Memorial

Caltrans District 2 held its annual Workers Memorial last week at the Red Bluff Maintenance Station in Tehama County. Since 1921, 193 Caltrans workers have lost their lives in the line of duty. Fourteen of those workers were from District 2. Caltrans District 2 covers Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas Counties.

“We will always remember those who have lost their lives serving the people of California and especially District 2,” said Dave Moore, Caltrans District 2 Director. “We miss you and you will be remembered forever.”

Along with Director Moore, presenters at the event included Sergio Aceves, Acting Director for District 3/North Region, Greg Berry, Chief of North Region Construction, and Lieutenant Bret Kwarta, Red Bluff Area CHP Commander. The presentation of cones was presented by Roger Lucas, District 2 Maintenance Manager II, and Scott Porter, District 2 Maintenance Manager I, along with 18 District 2 personnel from our local honor guard. Jaclyn Muir, District 2 Facility Coordinator/Contract Manager, sang the National Anthem, Mark Robertson, Chaplain for Anderson Police Department and former Caltrans District 2 employee, provided the invocation, and John Stoops, Commander of the Red Bluff Honor Guard, played Taps at the event.

Each year we join together to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while maintaining and constructing our highway system, and to continue to move towards a safer future for highway workers, contractors, and all of those who utilize the state highway system.

Safety is shared. Please slow down, move over, travel safely in and around work zones, and avoid distraction. Let’s work together to do everything we can to not add another name to another cone
