California Invests $1.4 Billion for Transportation Improvements
SB 1 provides $884 million of funding
SACRAMENTO — The California Transportation Commission (CTC) today allocated more than $1.4 billion for projects to repair and improve transportation infrastructure throughout the state. Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of2017, accounts for more than half of this investment – $884 million.
“California continues to make significant investments in fixing our roads, highways, bridges and transit systems,” said Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin. “SB 1 is critical to making these repairs and upgrades, while also supporting thousands of jobs that are essential for our economy. ”
Projects approved in District 12, Orange County include:
- $720,000 for a project to improve worker safety on State Route 1 (SR-1, Pacific Coast Highway) in Dana Point by installing maintenance vehicle pullouts, relocating roadside facilities away from traffic, and managing stormwater drainage.
- $2.24 million for a project to install safety lighting and upgrade the median barrier, drainage systems, and signs on SR-22 (Garden Grove Freeway) in the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, and Orange.
- $7.4 million for a project to add one mixed flow lane on northbound Interstate 5(I-5) from the I-405 truck bypass onramp to Yale Street in the city of Irvine.
SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.For more information about other transportation projects funded by SB 1, go to: visitRebuildingCA.ca.gov.
