ORANGE COUNTY – Progress continues at the State Route 91 (SR-91) and Lakeview Avenue Interchange as crews prepare for construction of the new Lakeview bridge. Next week, crews will begin pile driving.
Pile driving is anticipated to begin the week of August 25 and continue in phases through early October, on weekdays. Crews may be on the worksite as early as 6 a.m. and are anticipated to perform pile driving activities from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
While pile driving is a critical step in the construction process, it may also be noisy and cause some vibration. The construction team will monitor noise and vibration levels throughout the activity.
What is Pile Driving?
Pile driving is a common construction method used to build a strong foundation for large structures, such as bridges. During this process, long steel beams, known as piles, are driven deep into the ground with the help of a powerful hammer mounted on a construction rig.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in partnership with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), is improving State Route 91 (SR-91) from State Route 57 (SR-57) to State Route 55 (SR-55). OCTA and Caltrans are working with the neighboring cities of Anaheim, Orange, Placentia, Fullerton and Yorba Linda.
The project will improve mobility throughout the corridor by making operational improvements that will reduce weaving and merging between ramps and interchanges. For additional project information, visit octa.net/91improvements.
