Caltrans Completes the State Route 57 at Lambert Road

Interchange Improvement Project

Brea – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reopened State Route 57 at Lambert Road on March 20, 2024, after a four year build. Working with design plans provided by city engineers, Caltrans successfully completed this project, partially funded through Senate Bill 1 (SB1), The Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Approximately $98 million in improvements were made to provide additional capacity, create a better traffic flow, and improve the overall operational performance of the Lambert Road interchange.

All Lambert Road on-ramps and off-ramps have been widened and are fully operational, including the newly constructed Lambert loop onramp. Both directions of Lambert Road from Pointe Drive to State College have been widened to four lanes. The additional lanes on Lambert Road, in conjunction with extra space on the Lambert overcrossing bridge structure, will assist in reducing congestion as well as congestion-related accidents.

“Caltrans would like to give a special thank you to the Brea residents and local businesses for their patience as we completed this challenging project,” Caltrans District 12 Director Lan Zhou said.

SB1 funds transportation projects that local agencies and Caltrans use to fix California’s roads and bridges, reduce traffic delays, improve the movement of goods, and increase transit options. With nearly $49 million dollars in SB1 funding, the completion of this project will help reduce congestion for motorists during peak driving times on the city surface streets as well as the state highway system.
