PCH Bike Lane Project
Project Description
As part of the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) move towards advancing its Complete Streets directive, the State Route 1 (SR-1, PCH) Bike Lane Project will add comprehensive Class II bike lanes in both directions along PCH between the Santa Ana River Bridge and Anderson Street in the City of Huntington Beach, in the County of Orange.
To effectively install the bike lanes, crews will reduce the width of the existing raised median between Twin Dolphin Drive and Beach Boulevard, install a concrete median between Seapoint Street and Warner Avenue, widen the right-turn pockets and reconstruct ADA facilities at select intersections and relocate traffic signal and lighting poles.
Benefits
The new continuous route will connect key points along PCH, providing a scenic and efficient pathway for cyclists traveling between Huntington Beach and Seal Beach.
This project also supports broader goals of reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. By investing in this type of infrastructure, Caltrans and its local partners are advancing efforts to build a cleaner, more connected and sustainable transportation network.
How does this work affect you?
Construction will take place both during the day and overnight. The daytime work will be done Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, in order to minimize the traffic impact on the public during daytime business hours construction will be behind k-rail. Overnight work will be from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and may require lane closures. Please note that parking along PCH in construction areas may be impacted.
