San Diego — Caltrans will close the connectors from northbound and southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) to northbound I-5 on Friday, April 24, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. for paving work. Caltrans will close the Interstate 5 (I-5) northbound off-ramp to Hawthorn Street and northbound and southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) connectors to northbound I-5 on Saturday, April 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. for paving work.
Motorists headed to Hawthorn Street will continue northbound on I-5 to the Sassafras Street/India Street off-ramp. Then turn left onto Sassafras Street to the southbound Pacific Highway and proceed south to West Hawthorn Street.
Motorists on northbound SR-163 will continue northbound, then use the westbound I-8 connector, then to the northbound I-5 connector.
Motorists on southbound SR-163 will continue southbound, then use the southbound I-5 connector, then use the Imperial Avenue off-ramp, turn left onto Imperial Avenue, and then turn left onto the northbound I-5 on-ramp.
Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.
The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other work-related reasons.
