San Diego — Caltrans crews will close the Camino De La Plaza “Last U.S. Exit” off-ramp at southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) in San Ysidro on Monday, September 22, through Wednesday, September 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pipe installation as part of infrastructure improvements.
Signs will be posted ahead of the closures to alert motorists. Those who do not wish to cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry into Mexico can access the following detours:
Southbound I-5: exit at Via De San Ysidro Boulevard off-ramp, turn right onto Via De San Ysidro Boulevard, then left onto Calle Primera, then continue towards Camino De La Plaza via Willow Road.

**Important Reminder: **
There is no exit once past Camino de la Plaza. Motorists who do not exit in time will be directed across the border into Mexico. Please allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible.
This work will be performed at night under the protection of temporary freeway lane closures, providing enhanced crewmember protection and ensuring the safety of the traveling public. Nearby residents and businesses can expect increased traffic on the detour route, as well as construction noise and lights during this activity, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)- required vehicle back-up alarms. Crews will work to minimize noise and impacts to all nearby communities. The maintenance work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations.
