SAN DIEGO — Caltrans will close two freeway connectors in the South Bay from Tuesday, October 4, through Thursday, October 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for nighttime pavement work. The closures will impact Southbound Interstate 805 (I-805), State Route 905 (SR-905), and Northbound Interstate 5 (I-5).

The work includes pavement rehabilitation as well as wrong-way driver infrastructure improvements.

Tuesday, October 4 & Wednesday, October 5: SB I-805 to WB-905 Connector Closure

  • Detour: Head south on I-805 towards eastbound SR-905. Take the exit ramp towards Caliente Avenue, then turn left. At the next light, turn left onto westbound SR-905.

Thursday, October 6: NB I-5 to EB SR-905 Connector Closure

  • Detour: Head north on I-5 towards Coronado Avenue. Exit Coronado Avenue then turn left. Take the entrance to I-5 south, then head to the eastbound SR-905 connector.

Thursday, October 6: Eastbound SR-905

  • Detour: Head east towards the I-5 on-ramp. Head north on I-5 towards Coronado Avenue. Exit Coronado Avenue then turn left. Take the entrance to I-5 south, then head to the eastbound SR-905 connector.

Nearby residents and businesses can expect nighttime construction noise and lights, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required vehicle backup alarms. Crews will work to minimize noise and impacts.

Travelers are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving equipment and to Be Work Zone Alert. The maintenance work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations.
