Project Overview

The Caltrans District 11 State Route 94 (SR-94) project aims to improve and extend the service life of SR-94 from I-5 (PM 1.6) to (PM 15.4). The project aims to improve existing drainage systems, upgrade the landscape and utilities, enhance safety, and ensure reliable access for all users.

Project Features

This project focuses on upgrading SR-94 sections within the construction limits. This rehabilitation work will include:

  • Overlay roadway with Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt (RHMA)
  • Cold plane selected pavement areas
  • Replace asphalt concrete dikes
  • Regrade back shoulders to match new pavement elevations
  • Install centerline and shoulder rumble strips
  • Upgrade ADA Curb Ramps
    • 22nd St. and G St.
    • 28th St.
  • Upgrade MGS guardrail systems to meet current standards
  • Upgrade concrete barrier systems
  • Upgrade existing crash cushions to meet current standards
  • Perform drainage and landscape improvements
  • Upgrade road signage
  • Upgrade Middle Mile Broad Band for SR-94
  • Modify/improve signals and lighting

The project will provide improved drainage system conditions, enhanced safety, and longer-lasting infrastructure along a major route for all users.

What to Expect During Construction

Construction on this project will be covered by day (06:30 AM to 03:30 PM) and night (08:30 PM to 05:00 AM) shifts depending on activities and road closure requirements. However, work will initially start during the day shifts and will be conducted in accordance with design staging, in approximately one-mile segments at a time.

Work will involve utilization of heavy machinery (including trucks, pavers, compactors, concrete mixers), construction lights, saw cutting, grinding, excavation, backfilling, road closures, and flagging crews to direct traffic safely through work zones as applicable. Drivers should anticipate minor to moderate delays (depending on location), recommend following posted signage, and remain vigilant around workers and equipment. Access along SR-94 will always be maintained; however, lane closures and brief stops may occur during active work hours, which may affect access to driveways located directly on SR-94.
