SR-86 Southbound Pavement Rehabilitation Project
Project Overview
This is a Pavement Rehabilitation anchor asset project that proposes to preserve State Route 86 (SR-86), located in Imperial County, from post mile (PM) R37.248 to 67.824.
The proposed improvements are:
- Preserve 47.7 Lane Miles of Pavement On SR-86, Southbound Direction
- Rehabilitate 2907 Linear Feet of Culvert
- Upgrade 34,183 Linear Feet of Guardrails
- Rehabilitate 12 Street Light
- Replace 30 Roadside Signs
- Upgrade 3 Census Stations
- Upgrade 6 Pedestrian Signals
- Construct 127,844 Linear Feet of Class 2 Bikeway-Southbound Direction
- Construct 8 Conflict Zone Green Paint
Goals
- Restore this southbound segment of SR-86 to a state of good repair which will result in minimum long-term maintenance
- Increase roadway safety with pavement rehabilitation and streetlight improvements
- Increase pedestrian safety with pedestrian signal upgrades
- Complete street upgrades with the construction of a Class II Bikeway
Project Status
- Preliminary Planning: Completed July 2025
- Environmental:Estimated August 2026 to March 2028
- Design:Estimated May 2028 to December 2029
- Construction: October 2030 to February 2032
Project Cost
The estimated total project cost of the project is $128 million.
Project Funding
This project is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP).
