Wildfire Fuel Reduction Work To Begin In Mariposa And Amador Counties
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is clearing dead and dying vegetation along State Route 49 in Mariposa and Amador counties to maintain vegetation to prevent damage to roads, visual obstructions for motorists, and to maintain primary evacuation routes for emergency scenarios.
The landscaping work is being conducted in support of California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan. Caltrans is targeting this work to begin at the end of March and will continue through May, requiring one-way traffic control in two to four-mile stretches of the highway. Motorists can expect 10-to-15-minute delays and should seek alternative routes where possible.
Mariposa County – Caltrans will conduct vegetation control work on State Route 49 between Mt. Bullion and Bear Valley, and between downtown Coulterville and Penon Blanco / Haigh Road. This vegetation control work is targeted to begin in late March and will continue through the end of April. Caltrans maintenance crews will be working Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Amador County – Caltrans will conduction vegetation control work on State Route 49 in Amador County from the North Fork Mokelumne River to Sutter Hill, and between Drytown and Enterprise. The vegetation control work is scheduled to occur from early April through May and maintenance crews will be working Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
