Overnight Full Closures Of Northbound State Route 99 In Stockton
Repairs Of Calaveras River/Frontage Road Overcrossing – Detour Required

San Joaquin County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will soon perform two, 12-hour overnight full closures of northbound State Route 99 (SR-99) for girder replacement work on the Calaveras River/Frontage Road Overcrossing, located just north of Wilson Way in Stockton.

Detour Map for the SR99 Closures

The first closure is scheduled beginning Saturday, May 17, from 9:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, as crews will demolish and remove an existing damaged girder under the overcrossing structure.

The second closure is scheduled beginning Saturday, May 31 from 9:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, as crews will install the new girder and ensure all roadways are safe before reopening to motorists.

The #1 (left) lane of southbound SR-99 will also be closed during these dates/times for the safety of motorists.

Detour Information:

  • Motorists traveling on northbound SR-99 will be directed to take SR-88/Waterloo Road East (Exit 255), continue east on SR-88 to SR-12/Victor Road, then travel west on SR-12/Victor Road to return to northbound SR-99.
  • The northbound SR-99 on-ramps from Wilson Way, Cherokee Road and Waterloo Road will also be closed during these dates/times. Motorists will be directed to take the designated detour or seek alternate route.

These closures are required to replace a damaged girder located under the overcrossing that was struck by a high-load vehicle. Caltrans has evaluated the damage to the structure and determined there is no immediate danger to the public or risk of collapse of the structure.

Portable changeable message signs (CMS) will be in place to alert the traveling public of detour routes and road closures. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

All work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues. For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert.
