Rest Area & Lane/Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 And State Routes 59, 99, 140 & 165

Merced County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, SR-140, and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2025.
    • ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

State Route 59

  • Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.

State Route 99

  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at the SR-140 E Separation for landscaping work on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at the G Street Under-Crossing for landscaping work on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way for landscaping work on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way for landscaping work on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

State Route 140

  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, July 7, through Thursday, July 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Friday, July 8, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

State Route 165

  • One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control at Wolfsen Road for drainage work beginning Monday, July 7, through Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
