Traffic Advisory Merced County 06/20/25

REST AREA, LANE & RAMP CLOSURES 
INTERSTATE 5 AND STATE ROUTES 59, and 165

Merced County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), and SR-165 (SR-165) for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

• Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through June 30, 2025.  .
• ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). 

State Route 59

• One-way traffic control from Turlock Road to Dana Slough for utility work beginning Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.

State Route 140

• Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Tuesday, December 31, at 3:00 p.m. through Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. 
  
   

State Route 165

• Full highway closure from Fourth Avenue to Second Avenue for special event on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  
  One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Saturday, June 21, through Monday, June 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and Monday, June 23, through Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
