Merced County
Rest Area, Lane and Ramp Closures Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99, 140, and 165
Merced County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), State Route 140 (SR-140), and State Route 165 (SR-165) for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
Interstate 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through June 30, 2025.
- ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
State Route 59
- Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
State Route 99
- Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at the Mission Avenue Over-Crossing for pavement repair work beginning Wednesday, June 11, through Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
State Route 140
- One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to Laurel Avenue for utility work beginning Monday, June 9, through Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Tuesday, December 31, at 3:00 p.m. through Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
State Route 165
- One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Saturday, June 7, through Friday, June 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
