Merced County
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 And State Route 59, 99, & 140
Merced County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
Interstate 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025.
- ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
State Route 59
- Long-term closure lane/shoulder closure at Bear Creek Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
- Conventional overnight lane and sidewalk/shoulder closures at Bear Creek Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10, through Friday, February 14, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
State Route 99
- Full on ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Bradbury Road Over-Crossing for drainage work on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
State Route 140
- Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Monday, March 31, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.
- One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10, through Thursday, February 13, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
