New Shenandoah Wine Country Bike Trail Welcomes Cyclists
Plymouth – The Gateway to the Shenandoah Wine Country is ripe for exploring with improved safety for community members and visitors in the historic Gold Rush town, after Caltrans constructed a $1 million bike trail as part of the Clean California initiative.
The new separated bike path along State Route 49 provides added protection for people who walk and bicycle in the area.
The new bike trail includes improved drainage, new signage, striping and added safety upgrades, including a crosswalk with flashing beacons near a local park.
This project was made possible by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Clean California initiative — a sweeping, $1.2 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create thousands of jobs, and join with communities throughout the state to refresh, transform, and beautify public spaces.
Since July 2021, Caltrans’ Clean California initiative and its local partners have removed nearly 3.4 million cubic yards of litter from roadsides and public spaces – enough to fill about 136,000 garbage trucks. Caltrans also hosted more than 650 free dump days in communities throughout the state, resulting in the collection of 15,500-plus mattresses and 57,000 tires. The initiative has enlisted 72,000-plus community clean-up volunteers and created thousands of jobs, including positions for individuals who were formerly incarcerated on probation or experiencing housing insecurity.
