New Shenandoah Wine Country Bike Trail to Welcome Cyclists
Plymouth – Community members and visitors to this historic Gold Rush town will enjoy a safer way to explore the Gateway to the Shenandoah Wine Country after Caltrans constructs a $1 million bike trail as part of the Clean California Initiative.
Beginning Monday, Caltrans will build a separated bike path along State Route 49 to provide added protection for those using active transportation. Construction is expected to take approximately three months.
This project is possible through Governor Gavin Newsom’s Clean California initiative — a sweeping, $1.2 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create thousands of jobs, and join with communities throughout the state to refresh, transform, and beautify public spaces.
Since July 2021, Caltrans and its local partners have picked up more than 2.9 million cubic yards of litter – enough to cover nine lanes of Interstate 5 with trash from the Mexican border to Oregon. Caltrans also hosted more than 650 free dump days in communities throughout the state – resulting in the collection of more than 15,500 mattresses and 57,000 tires. The initiative has enlisted more than 72,000 community clean-up volunteers and created thousands of jobs, including positions for individuals who were formerly incarcerated, on probation, or experiencing housing insecurity.
Motorists can expect one-way, night-time traffic control (6 p.m. to 4 a.m.) beginning Monday, April 14, and continuing through July 31. This includes up to 10-minute delays, and motorists should consider alternate routes whenever possible.
Additionally, crews will conduct shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. various times during construction operations.
