The purpose of the Mono Winter Access Parking project is to provide designated paved parking areas for recreational users of the Inyo National Forest trail system. To accomplish this, Caltrans proposes to pave two existing dirt lots (locations 1 and 3) as well as clear vegetation and pave a third area (location 2). Creating a new parking area at location 2 will allow the US Forest Service to decommission an existing parking area approximately 500 feet east of the new site. The area to be cleared and paved is approximately 0.86 acres. Approximately 1.7 acres will be paved in total for all three locations.
Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. our studies show it will not significantly affect the quality of the environment. The report that explains why is called a proposed Negative Declaration (ND) and Initial Study. Caltrans has prepared the report, and is making it available to you to read and offer comments, and is offering the opportunity for a public hearing.
The Public Comment period will be open from Friday, December 14th, 2018 through Sunday, January 13th. Please submit your comments by email to Angela Calloway, Environmental Office Chief, at Angela.firstname.lastname@example.org, or in writing to 500 S. Main Street, Bishop CA 93514.
