Highway 1 Culvert Replacement Project


California Department of Transportation proposes to replace/repair culverts at seven locations on Highway 1 in Monterey County. These existing pipe inverts are severely corroded and perforated, and at some locations, the shape of the culverts have become deformed.

Project Description

The proposed work involves replacement of existing corrugated metal pipe (CMP) culverts with welded steel pipe (WSP), reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), and high density polyethylene (HDPE) culverts.


The seven locations are between 2.5 miles north of the Monterey/San Luis Obispo county line and 0.6 mile south of Malpaso Creek Bridge. Locations are at highway Postmiles: 2.5, 37.1, 38.5, 39.2, 47.3, 52.9, and 67.3
