SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY — Caltrans Hazardous Materials Teams (also known as Hazmat Crews) are unsung heroes of the state's transportation network. Hazmat Crews respond to traffic incidents throughout our state, work with several partnering agencies, and are pivotal in fostering a safe highway system.

In this Caltrans News Flash, we dive into the world of these crews, including a visit to a scheduled soil clean-up at the junction of Interstate 5 and State Route 33.

Hazmat Crews respond to emergency incidents along major state thoroughfares, especially during events that could have a dramatic impact on safety or the environment, like a fuel spill.
