What Is Being Planned
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is proposing to replace existing rock slope protection at twenty-four (24) bridges on Interstate 10 in Riverside County between Hayfield Road and Eagle Mountain Road, from Krume Ditch to Wide Ditch, just west of Desert Center.
Why This Notice
Caltrans studied the effects that this project may have on the environment. Our studies show that the proposed project would not significantly affect the quality of the environment. The report that explains the effects of this project is called an Initial Study (IS). This notice is to (1) advise you of the preparation of the Initial Study (with Proposed Negative Declaration) and of its availability for you to read, (2) offer you the opportunity to request a public hearing or provide public comments, and (3) inform you of our intent to adopt this Mitigated Negative Declaration.

What Happens Next
After comments are received from the public and reviewing agencies, Caltrans may (1) give environmental approval to the proposed project, (2) do additional environmental studies, or (3) abandon the project. If the project is given environmental approval and funding is obtained, Caltrans could design and construct all or part of the project.
