Paving Begins in Late Summer/Early Fall 2019

San Francisco — Caltrans has begun a one-year, $12 million project to repave two sections of the State Route 1 (SR-1) in San Francisco. One section, about a mile-long, extends from the southern city limits to Holloway Avenue near the main entrance to San Francisco State University. A second section, approximately two miles in length, stretches from Lincoln Way at the southern edge of Golden Gate Park to Presidio Parkway near the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge.

A third section, three-miles in length, extending from Holloway Boulevard to Lincoln Way, is scheduled to be repaved under a separate project, tentatively scheduled for mid-2022 after the City of San Francisco completes a sewer replacement and traffic signal project.

The upcoming paving project also includes replacing a concrete barrier in Golden Gate Park, adding guardrail on the north side of the

SR-1/Fulton intersection, improving drainage systems, and updating curbs ramps at intersections along the route.

Paving and grinding work is tentatively scheduled for late summer or early fall.
