Detour listed for cyclists from Novato to Petaluma
MARIN COUNTY AND SONOMA COUNTY — Bicycle through-access parallel to US-101 near Novato and Petaluma will continue to be closed as Caltrans and PG&E continue activities related to the landslide area on Redwood Boulevard in Marin County. Redwood Boulevard is closed to all bicycle and vehicle traffic during repairs.
Redwood Boulevard, which runs adjacent to US-101, is closed between Buck Center Drive and San Antonio Road in Marin County. PG&E is working near the northern part of the slide area.
Detour for bicyclists traveling from Novato to Petaluma (17.4 miles)
From Novato Boulevard, cyclists should turn right onto Pt. Reyes/Petaluma Road.
Continue onto D Street.
Turn right onto Petaluma Boulevard South to get into the city of Petaluma.

From Petaluma Boulevard South, travel southwest on D Street.
Continue onto Pt. Reyes/Petaluma Road.
Take a left on Novato Boulevard to get into the city of Novato.
Bicycles are not permitted to ride on the freeway shoulder of US-101.
The work by Caltrans and PG&E is necessary due to the slide, which occurred in March after the recent storms. Caltrans is working toward opening Redwood Boulevard and the bike path for the traveling public. Redwood Boulevard may be closed for two months.
On March 21, there was a landslide detected near Redwood Boulevard and Buck Center Drive in Marin County. Later that month, PG&E built a temporary bypass that avoided the impacted slope and ensured safe operations. US-101 southbound was shut down on the weekend of March 25.
Caltrans, PG&E, and the County of Marin have been in collaboration, monitoring the slide area. Caltrans thanks motorists and cyclists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
