Caltrans issues emergency contract to repair fire-damaged walls.
Sonoma County – Earlier this week, Caltrans established one-way traffic control on Highway 1 near Meyers Grade between Jenner and Fort Ross in northern Sonoma County after a wildfire damaged four timber retaining walls.
Caltrans inspectors found significant damage to the retaining walls, which bolster the oceanside cliffs below the southbound lane.
Caltrans issued an emergency contract to repair the flame-damaged retaining walls. Although it’s early in the design process, Caltrans estimates the road will reopen to two-way traffic in October 2020.
Flaggers are now controlling traffic, but Caltrans will install traffic signals in the next several weeks.
Motorists should expect five-minute delays.
