FOR MOKELUMNE RIVER BRIDGE REPAIRS EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND STATE ROUTE 12 BETWEEN SR-160 AND INTERSTATE 5

Stockton – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning a series of highway closures of eastbound and westbound State Route 12 (SR-12) between SR-160 and Interstate 5 (I-5) for repair work on the Mokelumne River Bridge located at the San Joaquin/ Sacramento County line.

Caltrans will perform one-way traffic control at the SR-12/Mokelumne River Bridge beginning Sunday, March 29 through Friday, April 3, 2020, from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. These closures are required to prepare for the bridge work during the upcoming 55-hour closures. Boat traffic will not be impacted by these closures.

Caltrans will then perform a 55-hour full closure of SR-12 beginning on Friday, April 24 at 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2020.  Work scheduled during this closure includes removal of the bridge “end jacks,” which secure the movable bridge back into alignment with the roadway after having opened for boat traffic.

Three additional 55-hour full closures are also required through the month of May 2020 (dates yet to be finalized) to replace the “end jacks” and to remove and replace the center main bearing, which allows the movable bridge to swivel open for boat traffic and return back into alignment with the highway for motorist travel.

** No lane closures are scheduled during the Memorial Day weekend of May 22-25, 2020. **

DETOUR INFORMATION:
Motorists should consider I-5 and I-80 as alternate routes and should allow additional travel time due to the detour. Detour routes are below (an approximate 30-mile, 45-minute detour) and will be posted:

Traveling Eastbound on SR-12
Take SR-160 north to Walnut Grove Road to I-5

Traveling Westbound on SR-12
Take I-5 north to Walnut Grove Road to SR-160 south

Access to local residents, businesses and emergency services will be allowed into Tower Park from the east and into B&W Resort Marina (Brannon Island Road) from the west.

Current truck advisories apply. CA LEGAL trucks with kingpin to rear axle over 30 feet are not recommended on SR-160. Trucks are discouraged from using this detour route and are advised to use I-5 and I-80 as alternate routes.

The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, materials, and/or construction-related issues.
