FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans has scheduled daytime exit ramp closures on U.S. Highway 50 this weekend for striping work as part of a safety project. The work will improve striping on exit ramps so that the ramps are more visible to wrong way drivers.

Wrong-way collisions are rare, accounting for less than one-tenth of one percent of total highway collisions, but often result in serious injury or death.

Ramp Closure Locations and Schedule:

  • Westbound U.S. Highway 50 to Stockton Boulevard exit is scheduled to be closed Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Eastbound U.S. Highway 50 to 34th Street is scheduled to be closed Sunday, April 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Crews are scheduled to work in the construction zone day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7 by the California Highway Patrol. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, or construction-related issues. Use Caltrans’ QuickMap for current road conditions at www.quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download the free Quick Map app on the App Store or Google Play. Motorists also can call the California Highway Information Network automated phone service at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
