FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placer County – Caltrans today announced completion of a project to replace four aging bridge overcrossings in Placer County, improving travel for motorists, pedestrians, and freight carriers. The $49 million Interstate 80 bridge replacement project included $38 million in federal funding; $10.35 million in funding from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017; and $650,000 from the state bridge rehabilitation program.

“Interstate 80 is a vital economic corridor with nearly $5 million worth of goods moving every hour along the route,” said Caltrans Director Tony Tavares. “These new bridges will greatly improve safety for local motorists, pedestrians and freight carriers traveling in the Sierra.”

Caltrans replaced the four overcrossings at Crystal Springs, Baxter, Drum Forebay and Cisco Grove to improve the condition of the concrete bridge decks and to construct 8-foot shoulders, 6-foot sidewalks and ramps that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Walsh Construction of Concord was the primary contractor on the project, which began in April 2021.

SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually shared equally between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly thanks to the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
