FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placer County --- Caltrans is alerting motorists of paving work that will impact traffic along a 14-mile stretch of Interstate 80 (I-80) in Placer County starting Sunday, July 9.

Motorists can expect various lane restriction this summer from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday between the Hillside Terrace Overcrossing in Auburn and the State Route 174 (SR-174) overcrossing in Colfax.

George Reed Inc. of Modesto will begin grinding and repaving eastbound lanes then transition to westbound lanes. Motorists will see temporary striping in the area until mid-September when new signs and striping are scheduled to be installed.

Heavy rains and snow over the winter deteriorated the pavement, and a $8.9 million contract was executed for repair work. The schedule is subject to change or delays due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
