FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Butte County —Construction crews will suspend around-the-clock one-way traffic control on State Highway 191 south of Paradise for the four-day Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Construction crews plan to relocate temporary concrete barriers to the side of the roadway and. open the northbound and southbound lanes between Airport Road and Old Clark Road by 5 p.m. Saturday, July 1. No construction activity is scheduled through Tuesday, July 4.

Around-the-clock one-way traffic control is scheduled to resume during the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 5 and continue for about two more weeks.

Flaggers at each end of the construction zone will be used along with a pilot vehicle during roadwork activity from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. An automated traffic signal will be in operation during the non-construction hours.

Motorists are reminded that pilot vehicles are to be followed at all times within the project zone for the safety of construction crews and travelers. Failure to follow pilot vehicles may result in a $220 citation with traffic fees doubled in construction zones.

The lane closure will allow crews to safely conduct hillside excavation work. The schedule is subject to change based on weather, availability of equipment or materials or other unexpected events.

Teichert Construction of Sacramento is the contractor on this $12 million project that will widen the shoulders to 8 feet and stabilize wildfire-damaged slopes along the roadside. Completion is targeted for spring 2024.

Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
