Sacramento – Caltrans has scheduled a traffic lane switch that will split westbound US 50 freeway lanes after the 26th Street exit off ramp.
The new westbound US 50 freeway lane configuration begins Friday morning June 9. At the elevated section WX Freeway for the ongoing construction work on the U.S. Highway 50 Corridor Enhancement (“Fix50”) Project.
Additional signs will direct motorists merging on westbound Highway 50 to stay in the far right 2 lanes to exits to I-5 or to stay in the far left 3 lanes on westbound Hwy 50 heading to West Sacramento and Davis.
LANE SHIFT: Westbound Highway 50
Beginning on Friday morning June 9.
Motorists are urged to use northbound I-5 instead of northbound Hwy 99 or southbound I-5 instead of SB Hwy 51 (Bus80) to avoid delays onto U.S. Hwy 50..
The ongoing work is part of the $460 million project to rehabilitate pavement on Highway 50 from the Highway 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the Highway 50/Watt Avenue interchange for a total of 14 new HOV lane miles and 54 lane miles of pavement rehabilitation. The project also includes new sound walls, drainage improvements, lighting and Intelligent Transportation System elements.
The project is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program’s Roadway Rehabilitation Program, Solutions for Congested Corridors Program (SCCP), Senate Bill (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and the City of Sacramento’s Measure A Transportation Sales Tax Program managed by the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA).
Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. Crews are scheduled to work in the construction zone day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.
Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.
