FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placer County – Caltrans is alerting motorists of the reopening of the Gold Run Rest Areas along westbound and eastbound Interstate 80.

The rest areas were closed in January after a series of strong winter storms filled the septic ponds to capacity. The water levels in the septic ponds have now dropped to 2 feet below the levee rim, which is the required level that allows the rest areas to safely reopen to the traveling public.

The Gold Run Rest Areas are a popular stop for motorists and truck drivers on this vital stretch of Interstate 80 between Reno and Sacramento.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Check out Caltrans' QuickMap for current road conditions and rest area locations throughout the state at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the free QuickMap app on the App Store or Google Play.

Motorists also can call the California Highway Information Network automated phone service at 1-800-427-ROAD
