SAN DIEGO — Construction crews working the eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) Pavement Replacement and Road Improvements Project in the community of Alpine had intended to close one lane of the eastbound Pine Valley Bridge from 9 p.m. Friday, January 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, January 8. The work has been delayed due to weather.

Crews are postponing the Pine Valley Bridge work until April 2024, after the winter suspension, which starts after the first week of February 2024.

This closure is in addition to the single-lane closure on eastbound I-8 between East Willows Road and State Route 79 (SR-79), which takes up to 20 minutes when traffic volumes are high.

This $46.6 million project is expected to be completed in late summer; more information can be found on the Caltrans website at https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-11/current-projects/i8-pavementrep.

Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.

The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related reasons.
