El Centro, Calif. —Construction crews will close all eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 (I-8) on the Colorado River Bridge near Yuma, AZ, on Monday, May 1st, and Tuesday, May 2nd, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for replacement of seismic bearings.

Additionally, the 4th Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-8 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists will detour by exiting towards Winterhaven/4th Avenue. Turn right onto 4th Avenue and continue southbound towards 16th Street. Turn left onto W.16th/U.S 95 street and continue heading east towards the I-8 on-ramp.

The closures are part of an ongoing project between Caltrans and the Arizona Department of Transportation to upgrade the I-8 Colorado River Bridge. The work includes resurfacing the bridge deck, replacing bearings at bridge hinge locations, and replacing approach slabs, defective guardrails, and seismic bearings.

Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related reasons.
