SAN DIEGO – Caltrans District 11 is hosting an in-person Hiring Event in San Diego on Tuesday, October 11, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to fill dozens of open positions, including equipment operators, highway and landscape maintenance workers, and maintenance service assistants.

Many of the positions are funded through Clean California, Governor Gavin Newsom’s multi-year $1 billion cleanup effort to create thousands of jobs, remove litter, and engage communities in beautification efforts across the state.

In San Diego, the Clean California program hired 89 people to state service and dozens more to contracted employment programs through hiring fairs and recruitment efforts since launching in July 2021. Nearly half of the applicants hired at last year’s event have been promoted to positions with more responsibility and higher pay. That’s one of the highest percentage of promotions for any of the 12 Caltrans districts throughout the state. Seven hundred fifty-nine new team members have been hired statewide.

Caltrans hit a significant milestone this month, announcing the removal of 1 million cubic yards of litter from the state’s roadsides since the Clean California program’s inception less than 15 months ago. That’s more than 16,700 tons of litter – 300 percent more removed from the state highway system compared to 2020, and enough to build two stacks of trash from the Earth’s surface to beyond the International Space Station, 250 miles in orbit.

Potential applicants can attend the Hiring Fair at 4050 Taylor Street in San Diego, walking distance from the Old Town Transit Station. More information can be found at https://youtu.be/EDdGfV-C8-Y or by contacting AskRecruitment@dot.ca.gov or (619)952-5382.
