Highway Brush Removal Efforts Continue In Ramona, Julian, and Lake Henshaw

SAN DIEGO — Caltrans crews continue to remove dry brush and vegetation along locations State Route 78 (SR-78) and will begin weed abatement efforts on State Route 76 (SR-76) Tuesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. as follows: • Westbound and eastbound SR-78 east of Ramona: work will take place between Hatfield Creek East Bridge to two miles east of Ballena Creek Bridge.

• Westbound and eastbound SR-78 east of Julian: from SR-79 in Julian to three miles west of Vallecitos Road.

• Westbound and eastbound SR-76 west of Lake Henshaw: from Camp Denver Fox to West Carrizo Creek Bridge.

The highways will be reduced to one lane in one-mile increments as crews perform the work.

Highway workers with flags will be in place to direct motorists one direction at a time onto the single open lane. Pilot vehicles may also be used to escort traffic on the single open lane.

Drivers may may experience delays depending on traffic queues and are advised to allow additional travel time to reach their destinations.

SR-78 brush and vegetation removal efforts spanning 30 miles from Ramona to San Felipe Road in Julian are planned for upcoming weeks. The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents or other project related reasons. Caltrans thanks motorists and community members for their understanding as crews perform this critical dry brush and vegetation reduction.
