Winter Gate Closure Update - Ebbetts Pass (State Route 4)

Published:

STOCKTON – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has reopened State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass down to Raymond Meadows (Gate #3) as of 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Caltrans Woodfords Maintenance Yard crew members worked overnight clearing snow depths of 5 to 10 feet in locations to reopen Ebbetts Pass to the public for recreational and winter sports access.

State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass remains closed eastbound at Mount Reba Road for the winter season and westbound closures may still fluctuate based upon atmospheric weather events. For the latest road and traffic conditions go to Quickmap.dot.ca.gov, or download our QuickMap mobile app, tune your car radio to Caltrans Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) at 530 AM, 1610 AM, 1670 AM, or call the Caltrans Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623). Changeable Message Signs with flashing beacons will have information regarding road and pass closures.

Caltrans urges motorists to still use caution while driving in winter conditions and watch for icy road surfaces in the overnight and early morning hours. For helpful information on winter driving conditions click on the link below:

WINTER DRIVING TIPS:

• Slow down on slick rain or snow roads to prevent spin outs and allow extra travel time.

• Carry chains at all times, check tire pressure, windshield wiper blades and fluid.

• Carry an emergency kit with extra food, water, clothing, and sleeping bag.

For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert and Move Over to give Caltrans snow removal equipment room to work.
