Spring Pass Clearing Update Ebbetts Pass (State Route 4)

ALPINE COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be temporarily relocating the State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass closure gate out to Wolf Creek (Gate #4) as of 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024. Caltrans maintenance crew members will begin staging snow removal equipment at this location for the impending pass clearing operations.

Caltrans Woodfords Maintenance Yard crew members will be begin clearing State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass early next week and will then move the closure gate back to Raymond Meadows (Gate #3) after the excavation work has been completed beyond that location. State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass will then remain closed at Raymond Meadows until the pass is formally re-opened to traffic.

WINTER DRIVING TIPS:

• Slow down on slick rain or snow roads to prevent spin outs and allow extra travel time.

• Carry chains at all times, check tire pressure, windshield wiper blades and fluid.

• Carry an emergency kit with extra food, water, clothing, and sleeping bag.
