Caltrans To Begin Safety Improvement Project At Several Locations On Interstate 205 In San Joaquin County

Published:

Stockton – Caltrans is preparing to begin a safety improvement project with the upgrade of existing guardrail systems at 35 locations on Interstate 205 (I-205) from the Alameda/San Joaquin County line to Interstate 5.

Work will vary per location and will include the upgrade of existing metal beam guardrails to the Midwest guardrail system, replacement of non-standard end treatments and crash cushions to meet current standards and will construct anchor blocks for transition-railing connections at structure approaches.  Other work will include implementing vegetation control, erosion control and drainage systems.

This project is scheduled to begin the week of November 12-18, 2023, with completion expected in June 2024.

The majority of work is to be performed during night-time hours and will require nine-hour lane and on- and off-ramp closures.  Caltrans will have flaggers and/or changeable message signs alerting motorists of the lane closures.  Roadside signage will also alert motorists of closures and any required detour routes.

This $4.18 million safety improvement project is scheduled for 140 working days and will be performed by Midstate Barrier, Inc, (Stockton, CA).

Future traffic advisories and social media posts will provide scheduled lane closure locations, dates and details.

Schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and construction related issues.
