From Louise Avenue In Lathrop To Downing Avenue Near Stockton
Project Will Improve Freight Corridor, Avoid Costly Repairs And Reduce Delays
Stockton – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a maintenance project that will improve the roadway surface of Interstate 5 (I-5) between Louise Avenue in Lathrop and Downing Avenue near the city of Stockton.
Work will include the repair of failed roadway surface locations using hot-mix asphalt, install new shoulder backing and new asphalt concrete dikes.
Overnight, alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound I-5, as well as on and off-ramp closures at Louise Avenue, Lathrop Road, Roth Road and Downing Avenue, will be required for the safety of motorists, roadway workers and equipment.
Beginning July 10, 2023, crews will work mostly night shifts, with some daytime work, for approximately 45 days - Sundays through Fridays - with completion expected in October 2023. Overhead and roadside message signs will be placed on I-5 to alert motorists of scheduled highway and ramp closures.
This $2.89 million project was awarded to O.C. Jones & Sons Inc. (Berkeley, CA), who will perform the work required.
This project will benefit commuters traveling to and from the cities of Stockton, Lathrop and Tracy, as well as motorists, and truckers hauling commercial and agricultural goods throughout San Joaquin County and beyond.
By improving the roadway surface, this project will also improve mobility and greatly reduce current and future maintenance repair costs for this highly traveled corridor.
