Caltrans District 10 offers training and permit renewals for Chain Installers

Stockton, CA — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is currently recruiting for winter season Chain Installers. Individuals interested in becoming a Caltrans District 10 Chain Installer is invited to call (209) 693-3895 for additional information.  Permits are available for Installers to work on state routes 4, 88, 89, 108, 120, and 207 in Calaveras, Alpine, Amador and Tuolumne counties.

New applicants are required to attend a Chain Installer Orientation Class which will be held on October 18, 2023 at 8:00 a.m., Mountain Region Office, 98 So. Main St., Angels Camp.  The class will consist of a written and performance examination.  You must pass both exams to obtain a Chain Installer permit.

Returning District 10 Chain Installers, with no prior violations, can renew their permits immediately by calling (209) 693-3895.

The cost for the permit is $324.00 through 12/31/23.  Calaveras County does require a business license for all applicants interested in working on Highway 4.
