SAN FRANCISCO — Safety is Caltrans' number one priority. In this Caltrans News Flash, we see how Caltrans is enhancing safety along some of the busiest streets in the Bay Area with the activation of pedestrian High Intensity Activated Crosswalk Systems, or HAWK.

The beacons look like traditional traffic signal lights from far away but operate a little differently.

See what makes the beacons unique, how they operate and how they alert drivers when pedestrians are present.
