REDDING — In this Caltrans News Flash, we take a closer look at Caltrans' efforts during the Helena Fire in Trinity County, near Junction City, on the evening of August 30, 2017. The fire destroyed over seventy homes and closed down State Route 299 just days before Labor Day weekend.
Caltrans, in collaboration with federal, state and local agencies, was able to begin single-time openings for through traffic four days after the fire began. Caltrans maintenance crews have been conducting traffic control, removing hazardous trees and identifying damage to infrastructure in the area. Safety on and around our highways is always our top priority, especially during emergency situations.
