EMERALD BAY - Caltrans is detouring traffic on State Route 89 north of South Lake Tahoe daily for two weeks to reconstruct 27 miles of roadway from South Lake Tahoe to Tahoe City as part of its commitment to safety and protecting Lake Tahoe.
In this Caltrans News Flash, learn about the detour set for SR-89 on the south end of Emerald Bay. This detour, scheduled for the weeks of September 12 and September 19 from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, is required in order to do grinding and paving work safely in a narrow section of the highway.
This $13 million project is one of five Caltrans water-quality improvement projects on SR-89 from South Lake Tahoe to Tahoe City. The projects, part of the multi-agency Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program, all feature new drainage systems designed to collect and treat stormwater runoff before it enters Lake Tahoe.
