District 10 - CTC Allocates $170 Million to Improve and Maintain California's Multimodal Transportation System

STOCKTON - The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated $170 million in transportation funding to 49 projects around the state. This money will be used to improve the state's aging roads and bridges and encourage the use of alternative forms of transportation.

"We are making sure every dollar counts when it comes to maintaining California's transportation infrastructure. These allocations represent significant investments in the preservation of not only our existing infrastructure, but also the promotion of alternate forms of transportation, such as walking, biking and transit."

The newly allocated funding includes $120 million from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) for 31 "fix-it first" projects that will maintain and preserve investments in the state highway system and supporting infrastructure. These capital improvements cover projects across the state and include maintenance work, safety improvements, pavement repair and bridge rehabilitation and upgrades.

Other allocations include:

  • $12.5 million for 11 capital improvement projects both on and off the state highway system as part of the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
  • $17.8 million for two Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program projects.
  • $15.5 million for 22 Active Transportation Program projects-the most recent active transportation investment from the largest program of its kind in the nation.

The remaining funding allocations are from assorted transportation accounts funded by state and federal dollars.

Among the projects that received funding allocations today are:

  • San Joaquin County: $25.5 million to State Route 132, near Vernalis, to rehabilitate 20.3 miles of roadway by cracking, seating and overlaying with asphalt, upgrade guard rails and drainage.
  • San Joaquin County: $6.8 million to the San Joaquin Regional Transit District for construction of high-frequency, limited-stop Bus Rapid Transit services in two new corridors and the purchase of 12 new diesel-hybrid buses.
  • Merced County: $1.5 million to State Route 99, in City of Merced, to construct maintenance vehicle pullouts, weed control barriers, access roads, staircase, irrigation modifications, and place mulch to improve highway worker safety at 12 locations.
  • Stanislaus County: $321,000 to the City of Ceres to install yellow and lighted crosswalks, close sidewalk gaps, improve existing sidewalks and ramps for accessibility.
  • Amador County: $32,000 to the Amador County Transportation Commission for planning, programing and monitoring.
