Digitizing was performed at Teale Data Center under contract by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The scope of the project was to digitize Valley Oak Woodland polygons only, and the resulting data do not provide complete feature class of the various vegetation types in each quad. In addition, the project focused on the Central Coast and a small portion of the Sierra Foothills, and the resulting data do not portray the full historical extent of Valley Oak Woodland.The purpose of the CDF contract was to be able to compare the current extent of Valley Oak Woodland to the historical range, within the Central Coast and part of the Sierra Foothills. The data could be useful for a variety of purposes, such as determining where Valley Oak could be reestablished or analyzing ecological site conditions that favor Valley Oak.The original 1930's quad maps are stored at U.C.
